DESCRIPTION:Guardianship\, Capacity and the Rights of Older Adults\nJoin us for an informative presentation\, light dinner and opportunity to network with colleagues! \nSocial workers and certified case managers will earn 2 CEU credits for this workshop to be held October 9\, 2025 at Island Nursing and Rehab Center\, part of the renowned Gurwin Healthcare System\, located in Holtsville\, Long Island. \nTopics to be covered include: \nUnderstanding Capacity and Decision-Making:\nHow capacity is evaluated in older adults\, the role of healthcare and legal professionals\, and ethical considerations in supporting autonomy while ensuring safety. \nGuardianship and Alternatives: \nThe legal framework for guardianship\, when it may be necessary\, alternatives such as power of attorney or advance directives\, and the balance between protection and independence. \nProtecting the Rights of Older Adults: \nSafeguarding rights during guardianship proceedings\, preventing exploitation or abuse\, and ensuring dignity\, choice and quality of life remain at the forefront of care.\nCheck-in and networking begins at 5:00 PM. \nDinner presentation will begin promptly at 5:30 PM. \nThis program has been pre-approved by The Commission for Case Manager Certification to provide continuing education credit to CCM® board-certified case managers via Family First Home Companions of New York\, recognized by the NYS Education Department’s State Board for Social Work (#SW-0417). \nThis event has passed.
