On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total eclipse of the sun will encompass parts of New York State. Although Long Island is not in the path of totality, our area will experience a partial eclipse during a window of approximately 3:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., when the moon passes between the earth and sun, turning day into night for 1 ½ minutes to 3 ½ minutes.
As a reminder, for your safety, do not look directly at the sun during the eclipse; doing so can cause temporary or permanent eye damage. Sunglasses WILL NOT PROTECT your eyes during an eclipse. Individuals need glasses certified to International Organization for Standardization 123-12-2 from a trusted source.
