Congratulations to all our winning photographers!

It was a picture-perfect evening at Gurwin Center for the 33rd annual Gurwin Photo Contest awards ceremony.  Along with our judges Tony  Lopez and Rachael Halupa, we were pleased to celebrate the creativity and talented of all our winning photographers and their beautiful pieces that now adorn the Gurwin Center.  These photographs do more than brighten our hallways; they bring happiness to our residents, families and staff, spark conversations and create moments of enjoyment throughout our community. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to making our Center a more beautiful and welcoming place.

About the Annual Gurwin Photo Contest

One of Long Island’s premier photo competitions, the Gurwin Photo Contest is a much-anticipated annual event, garnering nearly 1000 submissions each year from across the globe.  Submissions are judged by a panel of professional photographers for clarity, composition, subject matter and suitability for display at the Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Grand Prize, Honorable Mentions, as well as a Best-in-Show winner is awarded in 12 categories: Action/Sports, Altered/Enhanced, Children, Landscapes, Long Island/ New York, Nature, People, Pets, Still Life, Student, Travel and Wildlife.   Gurwin residents and staff also weigh-in on their favorites for a “Resident/ Staff Selection” winner.  Photos not selected for a prize award are repurposed as reminiscence aids, for visual stimulation and art therapy, providing a source of comfort and inspiration, specifically for residents throughout the Gurwin Center, including Gurwin’s Memory Care Unit and Adult Day Care Programs, making each photo submission a “winner.”

A panel of professional photographers donate their time each year to judge the Gurwin Photo Contest.

Photo Contest Rules:

Up to seven (7) printed  8″ x 10″ or 8″ x 12″ color or black-and-white entries per photographer at a $5 donation per entry.  Next year’s contest will open in February 2027. To place your name on the mailing list for the 2027 Gurwin Photo Contest notification, email: publicrelations@gurwin.org.
